Will Adele Play Dusty Springfield in New Biopic? And More

Soon there will be a biography on Michael Bloomberg, New York City’s three-term mayor. New York Times journalist Eleanor Randolph has signed on with Simon & Schuster in order to deliver a meatier life-story than Bloomberg’s own take -- published in 2001, at the very beginning of his twelve-year reign. Randolph, whose years covering New York City and state politics makes her a natural heir to her subject’s biographical efforts, will catch us up to speed, plus give a forecast of the mayor’s “ongoing status as a national leader.” [via The Atlantic Wire]
"I did it for the money," says Jennifer Saunders. Better known in some circles as the feisty Edina on the '90s British cult sitcom "Absolutely Fabulous," Saunders has written a memoir, a non-argumentative one that reflects a stark difference between her and Edina: “I'm a walkawayer. I think that's the best way to do it generally, rather than sit and fight and annoy your head.” Other topics include the role her lifelong shyness has played in her comedic life and her love of musicals -- including one she wrote herself. Bonkers: My Life in Comedy will be on sale October 10. [via The Guardian]
Among the stand-out components of Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer’s biography of the ill-fated Alaskan-wilderness wanderer Chris McCandless, is his subject’s closeness to his sister Carin. Now she, too, has written a take on her brother’s life, this one filled with details on their family life, which she describes in dissatisfied terms similar to her brother’s take. Her quest for a certain kind of peace matches his as well: “Since Chris’s death, my half-siblings and I have come together. In each other, we’ve found absolution.” The Wild Truth will be published by HarperCollins, in fall 2014. [via The New York Times]
It’s not much of a stretch to think of British pop star Dusty Springfield as a musical ancestor to golden-voiced Adele -- so it’s no surprise that Adele’s in early talks to play the pop icon in an upcoming biopic. It would be her first film role -- and land her alongside potential co-stars David Beckham, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift. We look forward to seeing Springfield’s famous bouffant and fancy ball gowns on the big screen. [via The New York Post]
